Below is a list of several written books that most directly compete with Cindy L. Herb’s book, Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles. Cindy L. Herb gives her views and a brief book summary of why and how each of these different books compares to her own book, Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles. The commentary and book comparision contained herein is by Ms. Herb and is based upon her views only.

  1. ‘Lucky’ by Alice Sebold –
  2. Both Lucky and Cindy L. Herb’s book graphically describe the true-life rape of the author and the aftermath of the crime. The violent crime victims in both books are virgins. In Lucky, it is an 18-year old college freshman and in Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles, it is a 9-year old child. However, Lucky does not provide any discussion of how the victim overcame the shame and guilt of being a rape victim, whereas, Cindy L. Herb’s book does provide insight into some remedies for healing.

  3. ‘Hush’ by Nicole Braddock Bromley –
  4. Hush is a book that focuses on the stigma and consequences of keeping quiet about childhood sexual abuse and molestation. Ms. Bromley talks openly about her own childhood sexual abuse by her stepfather and she gives advice to others in similar situations from a Christian perspective. Whereas Hush is similar to Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles in that both books reveal each author’s own trauma that resulted from childhood sexual abuse, the discussion of how to heal from the scars is distinctly different.  The approach in Hush is to tell others they must take certain ‘Christian’ actions in order to facilitate a spiritual healing. Ms. Herb’s advice is not as direct. In Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles, Ms. Herb merely reveals the simple process she discovered and used that allowed her to heal, offering readers a choice to do the same.

  5. ‘Robbed of a Childhood, Raped by a System:  Autobiography of an Adult Survivor of Child Abuse’ by Sunny Love –
  6. Robbed of a Childhood, Raped by a System is strictly an autobiographical account of one woman’s experience as a childhood rape victim and sexual abuse survivor beginning at age six, and the effects on her life resulting from such events. Ms. Love prostituted herself and entered into many unhealthy relationships due to her early abuse. Robbed of a Childhood outlines events that occurred from age six until roughly age forty-five, and is periodically interspersed with the author’s advice to women concerning men, sex, parenting, pimps, and marriage. Ms. Love reveals the fact that she worked with a counselor for approximately eight years to heal the scars from her traumas, but does not offer any details about the healing process. Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles is also autobiographical in nature. However, whereas Robbed of a Childhood does not offer readers any guidance on how to heal from the pain of rape, in her book Ms. Herb gives assistance on how to heal. She provides the simple process she used to heal from the intense emotional wounds caused by her childhood that was rife with rape and neglect.

  7. ‘A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose’ by Eckhart Tolle –
  8. Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles discusses similar spiritual ideas and philosophies as A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. Eckhart Tolle’s book gives an expanded and complex guide to illuminating the nature of a shift in spiritual consciousness and has few real-life examples of such. However, Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles uses easy to understand language in outlining the same basic spiritual guidelines, while providing personal, detailed real-life events that made those realizations possible.

  9. ‘The Four Agreements:  A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom’ by Miguel Ruiz -
  10. The Four Agreements lists four basic codes of conduct to live by in order to transform one’s life from one of suffering to one of joy. Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles not only gives practical advice on how to achieve true happiness and joy, but also offers guidance for others based upon an actual life biography, giving readers a reference with which to apply the principles.

  11. ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne -
  12. The Secret is a collection of wisdom given from many spiritual advisors about the Law of Manifestation: how to change anything in our lives, whether it is wealth, health, attitude, body appearance or relationships. Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles also touches on the concept of the same basic law, by redirecting our thought processes. However, Ms. Herb’s book does so in a much more connective fashion, as Ms. Herb’s book flows better and is easier to read than The Secret. In addition, Awakening the Spirit: The Open Wide Like a Floozy Chronicles gives the ‘why’ for our present understanding and lack of knowledge of the law, whereas, The Secret only provides the means to change our situation through the law.
